Thrifting Amore

You might have noticed a little #ShowMeTheThrift buzz on mine and Polkadot Pink’s instagram accounts last weekend. We were out and about and thrifting. This year we plan to travel the country (or the North at the very least) to enhance our love of all things second-hand and sustainable fashion. One might call it Thrifting Amore.

We love thrifting so much, we decided to start our own Instagram Thrifting Community hashtag #showmethethrift. I love a good thrifty instagram account mainly because I like to see what bargains others can pick up whist saving money and doing their bit to recycle clothes and save the planet.

And so, last weekend we were ready to do our bit.

Armed with lunch (and cake, who are we kidding here?!) money, tote bag and lots of hopeful inspiration we set off for a day full of thrifting. I had a bit of a shopping list already in my head: Bretonย high neck tee, black fitted workย shirt, spring style dresses… all I needed now were for the charity shop gods to be kind.

First Stop… Southport

(via Scarisbrick Marina for a very windswept stroll).

Slimming World SYN FREE Sweet Potato Jambalaya Recipe

I know very little about the origins of Jambalaya to be completely honest. I know it’s a Spanish-French-African rice dish originating from Louisiana (thanks google!), and I know that this recipe is utterly sumptuous and easy to make: Slimming World SYN FREE Sweet Potato Jambalaya Recipe.

To my knowledge Jambalaya (derived from the work ‘jumbled’ I believe from the comments on a Jamie Oliver website recipe) is usually made with chicken, chorizo and / or prawns. But just recently I find myself leaning more towards vegetarian dishes so sweet potato really speaks to me: It’s easy to prepare, satisfying and really tasty – not to mention you can eat them until they come out of your ears on the Slimming World Plan.

As always, there is not gluten contained either.

Slimming World Cheap and Cheerful Babychino

There are few things in this world that make my little girl smile more than a Babychino. That said, there are few things that I enjoy more than getting in on the Babychino action… even the best of us fall off the Slimming World wagon but when it comes to Babychinos (or Hot Chocolates if you want to be a ‘grown up’ about it) there is an alternative: Slimming World Cheap and Cheerful Babychino.

Garden Goals for 2017

It’s so nice to finally have a garden to have Garden Goals for.

We had a little yard at our old house that we spent a lot of time making lovely (read about that here), but now that we have the extra room we’re thinking about how to make our outside space into an extra room of our house.

Garden Goals for 2017
Our old yard was small but perfect formed…

We spend a lot of time outside when the weather is good enough as the toddler is an explorer to say the least… couple that with the new slide and the Wendy House and you can imagine how hard it is for us to keep her indoors when it’s minus 3 degrees.

But with the beginnings of spring’s new tulips and daffodils poking out of the soil it’s nearly time to let her loose in the sandpit once one – and it is time to start thinking about what we’re going to plant int the coming weeks: what flowers we love and what parts of our home and garden we want to make a feature out of. MEAL PLANNING MONDAY: W/C 16/1/2017

It’s time for me to construct the family weekly meal plan and as social media would lead me to believe, today is blue Monday.

First thing this morning the boiler was as dead as a dodo. PANIC. After a few minutes of both Mr Vista and I standing there, pressing buttons and scratching our heads we realised something vital… the washing powder box had the pressed the boiler switch on the wall to off.

Ahem.

We may be dummies but the point that I’m making is this: things aren’t always as bad as they first seem. When faced with certain peril, stop. Take a deep breath and like the kids of ‘Bear Hunt’ figure out a way to go through it. There is always a way – sometime it is as simple as turning the switch to on.

It’s blue Monday. It’s wet. The toddlerย has a snotty nose and we’re skint. But I will SMILE. We have a lot to be grateful for. Read more
