Slimming World Cheap and Cheerful Babychino

There are few things in this world that make my little girl smile more than a Babychino. That said, there are few things that I enjoy more than getting in on the Babychino action… even the best of us fall off the Slimming World wagon but when it comes to Babychinos (or Hot Chocolates if you want to be a ‘grown up’ about it) there is an alternative: Slimming World Cheap and Cheerful Babychino.

Rich, chocolate milk laden with ‘fuzzy’ cream and mini mallows – what’s not to love?!

Here’s your shopping list:

Where’s the Value?

1 pint of milk will make three good sized drinks, or two adult sized and two kiddie sized drinks. We use our Kilner jam jar mugs for Babychinos as we love a good mummy and me get up, but they’re just the right size too.

1 175 g pot of Freddo drinking chocolate contains 29 servings. At today’s price that is just 3.5 p per serving. A worthy investment.

We use choc shot a lot in our house to drizzle fruit and puddings as all three of us have a sweet tooth. I just drizzled this over the top of our Babychinos for its oozy effect – it’s totally optional. But at £3.50 per bottle this will last us months.

If you choose not invest in the choc shot, buying all the ingredients to make up to 29 Babychinos will set you back £3.28… 11 p per serving. All of the ingredients are resealable and have a great shelf life with the exception of the fresh milk.

To make two small and two large Babychino you will need:

  • 1 pint of semi skimmed milk  – Healthy Extra B or 6 syns
  • 24 g drinking chocolate – 1 syn per 6g serving (count 1.5 per adult serving for this recipe to be on the safe side)
  • 50 g mini mallows – 4 syns per 25g so 2.5 syns per adult serving
  • Aerosol reduced fat cream – 0.5 syns per 3 level tablespoons (YES, the servings that go straight into your month count!)
  • Choc shot to garnish – 0.5 syns per level teaspoon

If you’re following Slimming World and using your healthy extra B, that brings your syn total to 5 syns per adult serving for the WORKS!!! (*Whispers* that the same as just one chocolate Freddo) Worth it…

Here’s the method:

Tip the milk into a microwavable jug (a bowl will do but a jug makes your life easier). Heat in the microwave on full power for two minutes. Once hot, whisk the milk with a hand whisk like a mad thing until foam appears.

This can also be done using a pan on the hob, or with a steamier if you are lucky enough to own one.

Throw in the drinking chocolate and whisk again until all of the powder is incorporated. Technically you should mix the powder into a paste with a little of the milk before adding but I always get a better result using the ‘chuck it in’ method.

Once mixed, run your cups under the hot tap to warm them up – your Babychino will stay hotter for longer. Distribute the chocolate milk into your cups – remember two lager (approx 190 ml) and two smaller (approx 90 ml) servings.

Distribute your mallows. I usually measure my own mallows to my 2.5 syns worth and fill the others to an even level of mallows. The hotter your milk is the more your mallows will melt. I think this is one of the best things about a Babychino.

Swirl your cream onto the top. Again, I measure my own to around 0.5 to 1 syns worth and then go wild the rest. The more like a mountain they look, the better that will be*…

*not an actual fact – but pretty close.

Drizzle your choc shot over the top to serve. This looks pretty but doesn’t change the flavour in any way. I’ve added some chocolate spoons we made using moulds… we ate the mallows using them the day we took these photos. I would highly recommend it… but I wouldn’t recommend the syns.

Do you love a Babychino?
