The Month of May

I cannot believe it has been a WHOLE month since I set myself some frugal goals for the month and since we last had a real, proper catch up – my word, what a month May has been…

This month has been a bit of a difficult one by all accounts. A few bits of stress over a few different things mounted up and has caused a few sleepless nights. Our possible impending house move being one of the biggest.

We’re still waiting on a yes or no decision. Long story short – it’s driving us bonkers!

An operation that I’ve been waiting for has been postponed for at least another four weeks. Anyone suffering with Gallstones will know why this is a stress for me. I was looking forward to not having to panic about what I eat when I go to London for a mini break for Brit Mums this year. No such luck.

There have been a few other bits and pieces going on too… but I’m glad to say that the positives outweigh the negatives massively.

Back to our May…

This month presented me with a 90s RnB album on my suggested playlist on spottify. It brought the times gone by of Smash Hits magazines with free CD’s (when they were very, very cool) screaming back to me. To get just a taste of what I enjoyed in my teenage years and what I’ve been listening to this month, click the you tube icon below to go straight my my play list.

This month I enjoyed both the Hen Party and Wedding of a friend at work. Both brilliant days! The bachelorette party consisted of a gaggle of slightly tiddly ladies attempting to (and in some cases succeeding) to win a few bob on the horse racing. I realise that the races and gambling isn’t for everyone, but I had such a lovely time and enjoyed the exclusivity of being in the ‘posh bit’… and of course getting a little dressed up for the occasion too.

I’ve really been enjoying my food again this month and have got a bit of a thing for poached egg with salmon and cream cheese wrapped in ham. All completely allowed and indeed encouraged on the Slimming World plan.

We have also discovered the Burger in a Bowl recipe. Yum, yum, YUM! Next time I make it – and there will be a next time – I’ll make sure I post the recipe.

In an attempt to snack smarter I tried out the ‘Real Handful’ snack packs. I took them with me to work and shared them out at tea break. All feed back was good, and I’ll be nipping in to Holland and Barrett for a few more packs of the Mochachino flavour and my chocshot! Nom!

Little Miss and I have been baking again too. Trying to work through some of our favourite treats and figure out ways to make them gluten free. We’ve been making ice cream too – recipe to come!

Mr Vista set up a little shop in our front room with old packaging and plastic fruits and veggies for Little Miss to Play with. She adored it… and now keeps asking to ‘pay the lady’ and stealing my onions and apples!

We saw some sunshine and really enjoyed a few family afternoon meanders around the local park. One of my most favourite things about Spring and Summer in the UK? Blossom.

I had a lovely afternoon out shopping in the sunshine with my oldest friend. We had never been to Greek Oaks at Widnes before but fell in love! And although we were invited to spend some time there we feel like we’d found a little gem and will definitely return.

We started with the obligatory coffee…

Hands down – some of the best and friendliest customer service I’ve ever experienced. Especially in The Fragrance Shop and Roman… but more on this in another blog post.

We picked up a few bargains and Donna (aka Polkadot Pink) also picked up a gorgeous hat and plenty of inspiration… Click on the image below to see her scripted straw hat tutorial.

I also accidentally found my new favourite scent. Shame it’s a limited edition – I’ll have to stock up!

This month saw me jump on the train to Birmingham to meet some of my favourite people in blogging (old and new) at Blog Camp. I was the WORST blogger in the entire world and took just a handful of photos on the day… But I really enjoyed it and now cannot wait until Brit Mums.

There are a few faces that I’m looking forward to seeing again there. It has been too long.

The most read blog post of may was this one I submitted to Five under £5.

So there we have it… how was your May?…

Stay tuned for my bucket list for June and an update on the goals for May that I managed to accomplish. Thanks for reading:

  1. I love your catch up posts reading what you have been up to. How gorgeous is the burger in the bowl, we used to have it all the time. Next time you visit Green Oaks give me a shout as would be lovely to catch up for a coffee. I am only 10 minutes away from Widnes. Fingers crossed you get the news you want on your house move x

  2. Ah the whole house thing must be so stressful! I remember we had to wait last summer for ages on house completion and it was such a huge stress not knowing when you are actually moving.

Looks like a nice month though, all that considering! Weddings and parties and all 🙂 We love playing “shop” in our house too, and often shop for various vegetables and fruits. Now, if only my toddler would actually be as interested in veg at the dining table…

Thanks for linking to #mymonthlyroundup and hope to spot you at Britmums maybe 🙂
