Geronimo: Our Best Bits

Geronimo: Our Best Bits written by katie haydock for life on vista street - a review of geronimo tatton park in cheshire, knutsford

You might remember I’ve mentioned in most of my blog posts over the past few weeks (here and here especially) and over social media that we went to Geronimo festival during the bank holiday.

To be perfectly, perfectly honest: WE LOVED IT!

The only way that I can be more precise than ‘we loved it’ is to tell you exactly why.

Here are our best bits:

We spent most of our time in the 3 feet and under section but we did visit everywhere to take a look around.

Tumble Tots:

Tumble Tots has been one of those things that I’ve kept meaning to take Little Miss to try. Her older cousin used to go when she was a pre-schooler and loved it. But the fact that our nearest Tumble Tots is about 6 miles down the road always put me off, especially on the days that we don’t have the car.

After seeing how much she loved it I won’t hesitate in signing her up. This is the beauty of Geronimo – you can try things with no obligation for purchase and just have a great time.

Tumble Tots offered a 15 minute trial. This doesn’t sound like a lot but it was just enough in the heat on the day.

Little Miss needed a helping hand but did really, really well. She also rediscovered her love of tunnels!

Lou Lou and Laa Laa:

Mr Vista and I are not entirely certain why Little Miss refers to Elmo and Pheobe as Lou Lou and Laa Laa or which of them is Lou Lou or Laa Laa, but we know she loves Furchester.

She has played on the Furchester Hotel game on the CBeebies app since she has had any sort of hand eye coordination and she was SO excited to meet her friends. True to form though, she decided she was shy as we reached the front of the line. We had our picture taken none the less… even if she did refuse to look at Elmo.

Baby Ballet:

Little Miss goes to a ballet class every Saturday morning (we use the term ballet loosely…) and has done since before she was even two years old. She loves it and to be honest, its the only place I’ve taken her to mingle with other children that she has actually made any friends.

Our Little Miss loves to dance, and although she was shy at first after a while she danced away to ‘Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’. Lots of the other little boys and girls enjoyed it too!

Safety First:

  • St John’s were on hand
  • Paramedics were on patrol
  • There were constant reminders to wear sun cream
  • There were constant reminders to drink plenty of water
  • The information tent had sun cream available for those without
  • Parents were encourage to write their contacts details on their children’s wristbands
  • There were lots of indoor events to get out of the sun

I was really impressed with how safe Geronimo and Tatton Park wanted to keep their guests.

Pink is for Girls, Blue is for Boys:

I was amazed at how clean everything was. And even more amazed at how organised everything was. Ever been at a festival and desperate for the loo? Waited forever for a port-a-loo only to discover it was manky and barely usable inside?

Not at Geronimo.

Rows and rows of clean, tidy loos (complete with sanitizing hand gel!!) in both pink and blue… I didn’t realise this until after and used a blue loo… no one seemed to notice.

Smooth…

Breastfeeding Privacy and Baby Change:

There were loads of tents dotted around especially for breastfeeding mums. Little Miss is well past breastfeeding but I thought it was great that Mums and tiny tots had a quieter sanctuary and a place to sit out of the sun.

And because one tent on it’s own looks sad… the breastfeeding tents were kept company by baby change tents. Complete with tables and a basket of nappy bags and wipes for those who needed them.

Pat yourself on the back for this one Geronimo.

Mini Professors:

Not only did Little Miss adore this (I think it may have been one of her favourite bits) I learned something. Did you know that bubbles are made up of three layers? Soap. Water. And more soap!

We sang, made bubbles, got messy and saw the biggest bubble we have EVER seen!

And just how cute does Little Miss look in her teeny, weeny, white coat?

Side Shows:

A motorised piano complete with pianist. A T-Rex. A Hippo and rider on the rampage with a feather duster. A Muppet drummer… to name but a few.

These guys kept us entertained when we waiting in line and gave us a giggle and a fright or two.

Originality:

As a family, we love to do things that we’ve never done before and see things that we’ve never seen before.

We saw the old fashioned helter skelter, marvelled at the tremendously large flowers that Mr Bloom had clearly planted (we missed Mr Bloom as Little Miss was fast asleep!).

Little Miss was in her element when the guys from Swashbuckle came onto the main stage. It is her favourite CBeebies show – although in our house it’s called ‘Pirate Patch’, much the same as her Happy Land Pirate figurine. And I was in my element when Little Miss took me to the My Little Pony Friendship bus. I was the only adult to have a cutie-pie marks on my face (literally, I asked!!).

I am not ashamed.

I was Rarity and Little Miss was Apple Jack (on her arm as she’s never had her face painted before).

And I ate real, proper, dirty, fatty bum bum chips for the first time in aaaages. In the sunshine. And we ate candy floss in the shade.

And we smiled.

Big happy smiles from all three of us.

Food:

We took our own little picnic for lunch that consisted of cheese, crackers, apples, bananas, freddo chocolate bars, raisins and water. All things that travel well. But, as advertised before-hand, there was a HUGE array of food vendors.

It make me slightly sorry that we had a packed lunch, that we were a bit skint and that I’m trying to eat well.

We could have had fish finger sandwiches…

Are you sensing my weakness for bread?

All in all, Geronimo was the best day out we have ever had as a family and we would not hesitate to go back.
