I have been lucky enough to make it to thirty years of age and still have two of my natural grandparents alive. In fact, Little Miss Vista actually has three living great-grandparents!
Both of my Dad’s parents are still with us: ‘Father’ at 87 years old, and ‘Nan Sav’ just a few years behind.
Father was diagnosed with mixed dementia a few years ago.
He’s managing the side effects very well, he keeps active and has thus far managed to keep ‘himself‘ intact – although from time to time that naughty little boy (a characterful symptom of dementia)
pops stampedes through.
Nan Sav is doing a brilliant job at being Father’s full time carer. We’re lucky enough to be a relatively close family so they both have an incredible support system. Having four children has it’s perks I suppose?
This fact makes me no less proud of how both of them have supported each other since 1949 and continue to today.
They make me very proud of where I come from… My Captured Moment…
|And the mystery of where my sweet tooth comes from is solved…|
In the next few weeks, I’m hoping to share with you my first ever guest post. My Dad (the oldest of the four above mentioned children) is a retired mental healthcare professional. I’ve asked him to share his thoughts of dealing with dementia as a family.
Thanks so much for reading,
