How does your garden grow?

Our back yard is very small but it is perfectly formed and is a beautiful place to sit in the sunshine with the baby and the cat and chill out.

Happiness is…
The lovely bench that we are sat on was a very thoughtful birthday gift this year from my in laws. We have built our back yard up from absolutely nothing into something that my husband and I are both becoming proud of. This year alone it has been re-paved and some of the fencing has been replaced. The pots under the bench are paint to re-vamp the garden shed. We are painting the main part moss green and glossing the door and roof rim a paler, Mediterranean green. It’ll be gorgeous just in time for the summer!
We take a lot of pride in cooking meals with the vegetables that we grow and plan on making jam with the small amounts of fruit that we should get this year.

Lots and lotsa SPUDS!

We didn’t want to use a potato growing bag this year and have no earth to plant in so we decided to use an old green storage box. This was our inspiration to re-vamp the shed into a brighter version of its already lovely self!

Strawbs and razzers adorn our pretty pots…

We also have lots of herbs growing in our little greenhouse, some teeny asparagus and rocket. Unfortunately something ate my sunflower and pea seeds this year.

You will note the large amount of ‘forget me knots’ and small cups of sweet syrup planted next to our veg. These are because we don’t like to share our ‘grub’ (geddit???) with the local wildlife i.e. slugs, snails. The weed like flowers distract smaller insects from the veg, but the syrup helps to whittle out what the forget me knots cannot!

We are far from being self-sufficient but it really is a lovely sun trap of a place to sit!

This year, so far our plants and flowers seem to be blooming beautifully…

The Ivy is has been strategically placed onto this trellis to hide the wheelie bins from view. It is a less aggressive kind of Ivy which grows a little slower than your bog standard, so its a little easier to control. I LOVE Ivy, but it really does kill everything else and can be soooo destructive if you don’t take care of it!
